The integration of teapot art and tea ceremony, a miraculous recipefor health preservation and wellness
— — Preliminary Exploration of Wu Hailong's Purple Sand HealthPreservation Industry
Chinese master of arts and crafts, Wu Hailong, is the fifthgeneration descendant of Wu's pottery. The purple clay pottery brandhe founded, "Wu's Golden Tripod Pot," embodies a century ofcraftsmanship and a millennium of culture, and has become a nationallyregistered trademark with its unique intangible cultural heritage. Goabroad and enjoy a global reputation. Wu Hailong also deeply integratesthe art of teapot and tea ceremony, not only making the "Wu's GoldenTripod Pot" pleasing to the eye, with strong artistic value and aestheticfunction, but also promoting health and wellness after appreciating thepot and tasting tea, effectively serving as a non pharmacological therapy, and widely favored by people in the purple clay and tea art circles athome and abroad.
Wu Hailong is adept at exploring and summarizing the healthexperience of Wu's predecessors, and has a unique set of healthconcepts. He is well versed in pot art and also familiar with teaceremony. Due to the practical function of the purple clay teapot, it isrecommended to use the teapot to brew tea. Holding a teapot to discuss purple clay and drinking tea to discuss tea ceremony, integrating teapotart with tea ceremony, is an elegant cultural and artistic activity thatembodies the cultural wisdom of ancient sages. Entering moderncivilized society, it echoes the new way of life of modern people, meetsthe increasingly progressive material needs and spiritual pursuits. WuHailong traced back to the origin and deduced the tea ceremony fromthe pot art. He believed that tea originated in China and flourished in theTang and Song Dynasties. It absorbed the essence of heaven and earthand grew with the sun and the moon. He said, "Shen Nong tasted ahundred herbs, encountered seventy-two poisons a day, and obtainedtea to relieve them.". So, tea transformed from the grass and trees thatsucked clouds and drank dew in the primitive forest into the elixir forpeople to disinfect, refresh, and relieve fatigue. The ancients have long used tea to brew and blend tea, which is not only an indispensable partof daily life for the seven essential tasks of "firewood, rice, oil, salt, soysauce, vinegar, and tea", but also an important element of the spiritualand cultural life of literati and literati in "qin, qi, calligraphy, painting, poetry, wine, and tea". Our country has a long tea culture, and throughgenerations of skilled tea makers, we have cultivated and producedthousands of types of tea in six major categories. Its green tea, black tea, white tea, green tea, yellow tea, black tea, combined with the differentregional characteristics of Longjing, Qihong, Dahongpao, andHuangjingui, have diverse forms and are magnificent. Long term health practices have fully proven that drinking tea can rejuvenate one's spirit and prolong life. According to legend, Princess Yongle, the daughter of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty, was weak and sickly from a youngage, with a withered face. Later, under the guidance of a master, sheoften brewed tea and drank clothes. Later on, she became exceptionallybeautiful and beautiful like a flower. According to scientific testing, teacontains rich nutrients such as alkaloids, proteins, amino acids, and traceelements. Long term consumption can enhance appetite, dissolve fat, inhibit bacteria and inflammation, and invigorate the mind. Tea itself contains a profound culture that does not disappoint the love of theheavens. It is both material and spiritual, forming a colorful teaceremony and tea art culture. Ascending from a physical lifestyle to a metaphysical spiritual enjoyment, stepping into the cultural palace, injecting philosophical elements such as culture, food, and life, while emphasizing the art of drinking, from selecting tea, selecting water, preparing utensils, cooking to drinking, pursuing the enjoyment ofbeauty. A small piece of tea absorbs the essence of the sun and themoon, expands itself in the high-quality spring water, and integrates the essence into the tea water, so that people's spirit can be fully stored andsublimed to a new level.
With the continuous expansion of tea culture, purple sand culturehas emerged. The Yixing purple clay teapot enjoys the reputation ofbeing the world's leading tea set. The reason for this is that in its deepintegration with tea culture, it presents unparalleled advantages inmaterial, craftsmanship, functional use, and culture. Zisha mud mineral soil is a natural special mineral soil unique to Yixing, which contains iron, clay, and fine mineral rocks, known as "rock in rock" and "mud in mud". The clay produced by weathering, crushing, and refining of purple sand ore soil has the characteristics of strong plasticity, low drying shrinkagerate, and good air permeability. Purple clay has strong adhesion, is notsticky to hands or tools, and has good molding performance, allowingpot makers to freely unleash their creativity and create a variety ofpurple clay teapots. "Wu's Golden Tripod Pot" is a unique flower in thePurple Sand Hundred Flowers Garden, which has developed its ownunique skills in the production of light goods, square goods, and flowergoods. Wu Hailong's family treasures several tons of HuanglongMountain purple mud, including Dicao Qing, Tianqing Mud, Lao Zi Mud, Purple Eggplant Mud, etc. Wu Hailong inherits the craftsmanship spirit of the ancestors of the Wu family, attaches great importance to everyprocess and detail of pot making, and first and foremost selectshigh-quality purple clay. On this basis, he is diligent in observation, carefully conceived, and cleverly designed, perfectly integrating theaesthetic concepts passed down by the Wu family into every work.Appreciate each of his works in detail, from the pot body, button, spoutto handle, all of which echo and complement each other, forming aharmonious and perfect artistic whole. Here, let's enjoy his tworepresentative works together.
One is the "Hami melon pot". Wu Hailong chose the warm anddelicate Huanglong Mountain mud, using Hami melons produced inXinjiang as the pot body. The branches, vines, and leaves of the melons were used as the handles, spouts, and buttons of the pot, respectively. The texture of the pot body was decorated with different colored mudsections, and a three-dimensional modeling technique was used tocleverly cover the full branches and leaves on the surface of the potthrough the pot handle, with intricate and lifelike details. The rough skin and tender branches and leaves of cantaloupe are lifelike, delicate, andgraceful, radiating a vigorous and upward vitality in nature, a vibrantpastoral song. That small pot is not only a true reflection of nature'sproducts, but also an artistic crystallization of the creator's talent.
The second is the "colorful butterfly pot". Wu Hailong adopts acombination of virtual and real techniques, using a petal as the surface of the pot, a dancing butterfly as the button, and a vine and leaf vine asthe handle and spout, echoing back and forth. Appreciating from thefront, the petals are in full bloom, the vines are swaying and the leaves are rolling. A butterfly is gracefully approaching, dancing and pouncingon the stamens, fully sucking on the fragrance of nature. The pot shapeis full, the lines are straight, the complexity is simplified, and it is elegantand refined. Several different colored clay materials enrich the overallshape, creating a harmonious and beautiful scene of the fragrance of flowers and the warmth of butterflies flying in spring. The combination of motion and stillness is more pleasing to the eye. Both of the aboveworks have won gold medals in national competitions.
After the Wu's Golden Tripod Pot was formed, Wu Hailong carefully dried it to a certain degree before entering the old kiln for firing. The kilntemperature must be ensured to be above 1150 degrees. The claymixing pot uses an ancestral formula, and each piece of clay undergoes different changes in color matching and ingredient distribution. All arewrapped in gauze and pressed after a few days, and they aredouble-sided twisted mud with strong penetration and are not easy tocrack during firing.
In order to truly achieve health benefits, Wu Hailong also pays greatattention to the water intake and usage of the teapot. The spring wateris taken from the purple sand water tank, and then boiled in his healthpot before being filtered. Take more than 5 centimeters of tea in the pot,as tea below 5 centimeters contains excessive amounts of heavy metalelements. Drinking tea also requires attention to time differences.Drinking green tea in the morning can reduce inflammation anddetoxification. Tea can kill bacteria in the gastrointestinal mucosa, reduce bacterial toxicity, have anti-inflammatory and anti diarrhealeffects, and have a strong antioxidant function, inhibit cell aging, andinhibit carcinogens. Drinking black tea in the afternoon can enhanceappetite, promote gastrointestinal peristalsis, accelerate digestion andabsorption, expand heart blood vessels, improve myocardial bloodsupply, regulate fat metabolism, lower cholesterol, and prevent theoccurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
The human body is controlled by biological genes, while the humansoul is controlled by cultural genes that exist before the individual. WuHailong believes that tea sets have the material basis for people's health,as well as pleasant spiritual self-restraint. They adjust psychology fromthe feeling of beauty, so that mental health and physical health go handin hand, and have the life happiness of "healthy pension". Adhering tothe ancient and rigorous traditional craftsmanship of our ancestors, inheriting elegant and concise unique techniques, and emphasizingexpression and vitality. Based on the increasingly popular "teaceremony" and using diverse techniques to make teapots, he designedand produced masterpieces that matched the new way of drinking tea.He carved, twisted, or sculpted sections of purple clay into exquisitehealth artworks, which not only have practical health benefits but alsohave pleasing aesthetic value. The health preserving light vessel hemade has a delicate appearance, clear contours, and is simple andelegant. The health preserving floral ware he produces has a realisticshape, clear texture, and exquisite density. He imitated the lifting beam health pot made by Su Dongpo, with a high and ancient design. The pot body contrasts with the lifting beam in both virtual and real, with a cleanand clean straight line and smooth curves, as calm as a monk sittingquietly, auspicious and comfortable; The melody is like a beautifulwoman washing her veil, and the flowing water makes a sound.
Wu Hailong's superb potting skills can nourish qi. Based on theflexibility and color of purple clay, he exudes cultural charm in hisdesigns, inscriptions, paintings, and seal carving, following his ideas tocomprehend. You can learn grandeur from Taoism, calmness fromBuddhism, and righteousness from Confucianism, so that the Tao is the heart, nature is the will, the sun and moon are the form, and heaven andearth are the gods, entering a health preserving fairyland.
"Wu's Golden Cauldron Pot" can nourish the heart. Self cultivationlies in nourishing the heart, and cultivating the heart seeks the trueessence. Playing with the teapot during tea tasting allows the tea personto fully experience and enjoy through their senses such as mouth, tongue, nose, eyes, and hands. Hold it in your hand, relax your muscles and promote blood circulation; Drinking tea produces saliva, warmingthe intestines and stomach; Pure and sincere, seeping into the mind;Naturally formed, enjoy endless fun.
In the context of social progress, economic development, increasedmaterial wealth, and accelerated pace of life, people not only pursuematerial enjoyment and ensure physical health, but also pay moreattention to the pursuit of spiritual and cultural values. Green mountains and waters, lush green fields and fragrant grass, brewing tea in a teapot, the beauty is unparalleled. In order to further promote the developmentof purple sand culture and health preservation, Wu Hailong hassuccessively established the "Wu's Ceramic Art", "Wu Hailong Purple Sand Art Museum", and "Wu's Golden Ding" brand trademarks. As animportant window for external communication, it has attracted theattention of countless enthusiasts at home and abroad. Many peopleflock here, becoming more diverse and colorful on the basis oftraditional tea drinking habits. Wu Hailong never forgets his familytraditions and teachings, "only do one thing in his life, and only have oneheart for one thing." He deeply integrates his pot art and tea ceremony, pushing the non pharmacological therapy of purple sand healthpreservation to a new level.
